Amid the ongoing unrest in Nepal, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday (September 9, 2025) issued a travel advisory for Indians living in the country, along with helpline numbers.
The advisory urged Indians to postpone travel to Nepal until the situation returns to normal. “Indian nationals currently in Nepal are advised to remain indoors at their places of stay, refrain from going out on the streets, and exercise maximum caution,” the Ministry stated.
The MEA also requested citizens to follow safety instructions from local authorities in Nepal as well as the Embassy of India in Kathmandu.
For assistance, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu can be contacted at:
- +977 980 860 2881
- +977 981 032 6134
The advisory came on the same day Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned following Gen Z-led protests that intensified in Kathmandu and several other regions for the second consecutive day. Pressure had been growing on Oli to step down after 19 people, mostly youth, lost their lives on Monday (September 8) when police fired rubber bullets and live rounds at protestors demanding an end to corruption, nepotism, favoritism, and misgovernance. Reports confirmed that nearly 400 individuals were injured.
India expressed deep sorrow over the loss of young lives during the demonstrations and voiced hope that the situation in Nepal would be resolved peacefully.
Meanwhile, Air India, IndiGo, and Nepal Airlines suspended their Delhi–Kathmandu flights on Tuesday (September 9) due to the anti-government protests.
